How do we find the right wedding photographer?
A really great site to find general information about choosing a wedding photographer is WedFog.com. I have taken the liberty of reposting this article From Raymond Bruce Fosdick of Texas. I thought it had several good points.
Take some time to read thru articles on the WedFog site– there is lots of good info to educate yourself before signing a contract with someone you just met… Of course we want you to choose us– that is Barry Seaton to photograph your big day. But the real matter is we both have to be a fit. Yes, I am married to the man and I made that commitment almost 15 years ago and have never looked back!! Barry’s style is fun and energized and bright. The most important thing that he wants to do is tell the whole story of your day. That’s lots of images and capturing many details and knowing what is important to you as a couple and your family. If you are looking to have an album that is only filled with “fashion-magazine spread” images, maybe we aren’t your studio. Sure Barry and I can create those style of images. But what we feel is important is who was there and what was going on. We want you to look at your album in several years, in many years, and tell your children the story of your wedding day.
Each of our children have a birth story and every year on their birthday I tell them the story again.. It is the same with your wedding story. Sure not everything will be perfect and mishaps do happen and certainly we all that odd relative or two or three or four. But celebrating your marriage is what it is all about. ( and ps it does take work….)
You should choose a wedding photographer based on several considerations. First, of course, you must love his or her work. Look for a photographer whose work moves you, whose style you love, and who tells a story the way you want your story to be told. If you don’t love the pictures, nothing else matters. The second factor to consider is personality. Since your wedding photographer will be with you and your fiancé for a significant portion of your wedding day, and you will have close dealings with him or her both before and after the wedding, you need to make sure that you feel comfortable with this individual. One way to gauge this is to ask yourself: “Would my fiancé and I be friends with this photographer even if we weren’t getting married?” If the answer to this question is “yes,” then you are that much closer to hiring the right wedding photographer for you.
